Please join OCA-Greater Philadelphia at our upcoming banquet and fundraiser which will be held at the new Han Dynasty restaurant in Olde City Philadelphia, which was recently given 3 [out of 4] Liberty Bells by top Philadelphia Inquirer food critic, Craig LaBan.  100% of the proceeds from this year's fundraiser will go towards programming that supports Asian American Youth organizing and advocacy in Philadelphia.

 Asian American and immigrant youth in South Philadelphia are at-risk from racially-based violent attacks in schools and the community.  These youth face barriers to both emergency services in the wake of violence - and to resources for long-term success - due to English-language barriers, cultural integration issues, and unsafe in-school and after-school environments. Recent violent incidents may even deter some of them from staying in school.

The goals of several youth oriented programs such as those taken on by Asian Americans United, Boat People SOS Delaware Valley, and the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation is to empower Asian American and immigrant youth with increased confidence and self-esteem, as well as effective leadership skills to proactively respond to school violence in non-violent ways that reform the school environment and build community.

 Proceeds of the fundraiser will be disbursed via BP SOS Delaware Valley to support the overall operations of the youth training workshops.  In the longer term, the coalition of organizations hopes to bring the students participating in these programs together more often to collaborate on larger campaigns and advocacy work, as well as to establish a paid fellowship for student organizers / trainers.
